Low vitamin D levels can cause a fishy vaginal odor. I suffered with this for 18 years and a doctor decided to have my vitamin D level checked. It was 8! I got on Vitamin D supplements and got my levels up and the odor went away. As long as I keep my levels around normal, I do not have any odor.

I lucked into a fool proof way to vaginal/genital odors–diaper rash ointment with zinc in it. If you have kids, I’m sure you have some, I think Dr Axe has a recipe and you can even get it for $1 at the Dollar Stores in the baby section. It provides the same protection against the bacteria that cause vaginal odors as it does the bacteria that cause diaper rash. Just a small amount applied to moist areas and no more sweaty smell-even after working out.

I found something contradictory, wherein in “Top 10 Ways on How to Get Rid of Vaginal Odor,” Number 6 states that incorporating garlic into your diet daily can help to rid oneself of vaginal odor, YET below this, in “Vaginal Odor Causes,” it states that certain foods, i.e., garlic, can cause the odor. So, which one is it? Is the garlic good or not for this?? It cannot be both; it is either a good food OR not, for this condition.

Hi, I’m a bit confused because it says that we should try to eat garlic daily but then under foods to not eat it says avoid foods with a strong smell and it includes garlic as well.

Essential oil of oregano is best diluted
Plain yoghurt works very well for irritation and thrush, I recall using that once about 15 years ago.
Reducing stress, using cotton underwear, keeping my gut flora balanced have pretty much kept irritation/thrush at bay.

Having working in OB/GYN for several years I have seen numerous occasions where things have to be laid out explicitly to avoid confusion. Please tell your listeners that your suggestions for probiotics, yogurt, sauerkraut, etc are to be EATEN, NOT PLACED IN THE VAGINA! This might seem unnecessary, but we had a patient who was on birth control pills come into the office pregnant. After several minutes of questioning she admitted that she had put the pills in her vagina!

This article fails to mention the hormonal connection and especially the menopausal connection. Apparently menopause (with its lower hormonal levels) can bring about unpleasant odours “down under”. Short of HRT, I am not sure that any of these remedies above would solve the issue.
