Avocado chocolate mousse recipe

Avocado Chocolate Mousse is one of my favorite healthy sweet treats! Avocados are a high fiber food, packed with healthy fats and rich in magnesium. With 30 percent of your daily value in one avocado, they are also one of the top potassium-rich foods. This gluten-free recipe is rich, smooth and satisfying.

Total Time

5-10 minutes

Serves

Meal Type

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup medjool dates, soaked
  • ½ cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1-1½ cups mashed avocado (2-3 avocados)
  • ¾ cup raw cacao powder
  • ½ cup water

Directions:

  1. Blend or process dates, maple syrup and vanilla extract until smooth. Add mashed avocado and cacao powder and process until creamy, stopping to scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula if needed.
  2. Add the water and process until smooth. Serve at room temperature or chilled. Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator up to 3 days or in the freezer up to 2 weeks.
  3. Fudgesicles: Freeze the mousse in ice cube trays. Thaw for 5 minutes before serving.
  4. Chocolate Sauce or Fondue: Increase water to 1 cup

How many grams of sugar is in this? I’d love to try but it feels scary because all the dates and maple may really feed pathogens in the gut. What do you think?

Good recipe (no low calorie, low fat or “Lite” ingredients), but the dates are an option, and organic honey can be used instead of maple syrup. We use organic dark cacao. Excellent when topped with real organic whipped cream, or, fold in whipped cream to make mousse! A staple dessert at our house. :-)

You mentioned somewhere and I can’t recall where that you can make this with your chocolate protein. How much and is it just an extra ingredient or in place of another one?

I would do chocolate protein powder instead of or as a part of the cacao ingredient. You could do 1/2 cup protein powder and 1/4 cup cacao or however you like. If you want a more chocolate flavor, you can always add a little more cacao than what is called for.

    Great Recipe!!

Can also add 1 cup of coconut cream in place of the maple syrup and water – add stevia to sweeten. Yum!

How long do you soak the dates for? Also, when soaking the dates, is it same process as sprouting and dehydrating where you have to add salt to the water?
