The GAPS diet says that the right dose is important.

Flax typically helps improve estrogen levels. But some people have food intolerance and other issues that could cause problems. Always listen to your body. But here is some of the great research on how flax effects estrogen levels: http://www.greenmedinfo.com/blog/confirmed-flaxseed-contains-estrogens-regress-cancer

We read your article about a week ago and purchased organic, sprouted, ground flaxseeds. We put 1 Tbl. in our morning smoothies and in 2 days I went from a nice, smooth, blemish free face to acne like I haven’t had since my twenties! My adult daughter, who is prone to acne, but has been fairly clear for the last few years is also extremely broken out. We quit the flaxseed 3 days ago and have no new breakouts but the damage has not gone away. I feel horrible that I didn’t research this better. Could you address the estrogen issue and consider cautioning your readers? Praying for speedy healing.

What if a person has to watch her intake of estrogen because she had breast cancer?

If you’re not wanting sprouted, most organic brands are fine. I am coming out with a sprouted flax seed in less than 2 months so be looking for that! I don’t think that the lignans would have a huge effect one way or the other.

Flaxseed capsules are commonly flaxseed oil which is typically used as an omega 3 supplement so the benefits would be different.

And if a female is dealing with extrogen dominance are lignans recommended? Thanks so much!

They are both good but different! I wouldn’t say one is better than the other. Flax seeds contain fiber and protein while the flaxseed oil has more healthy omega 3 fats and is used as more of an omega 3 supplement

I blend thus a smoothie. My question, does the flax seed like it absorbs cholesterol and removes it from the body. In this concept would the flax seed attach to the vitamins and superfood mix and also remove it from the body without absorbing it. Thanks.

I was in the habit of consuming freshly ground flaxseeds to combat estrogen dominance, but I read recently that flax seed is a major source of cadmium. This alarmed me as I am definitely dealing with heavy metal toxicity also, so I stopped with my flax seed regimen. Have you come across any research as to the validity of this?
