I’m going to try to make a poultice using kawakawa extract! Can’t go past native trees for healing!

Looking for an old fashioned poultice. Saw the name, had to comment. Only an interested Kiwi would know Kahikatea – one of my favourite trees – ancient podocarp – kia ora, kiwi Jeff in Melbourne 11/22

She mixed it with melted crisco, let it cool enough so that it was comfortably warm and she pinned it into our p.j. top. It was ICKY but it worked. As the crisco cooled it congealed on the skin which is why it was ICKY. It stopped coughs. I need to go buy some snuff tomorrow. I have had a virus that attacked my lungs and triggered asthma. Antibiotics and prednisone are helping but tomorrow is the last day for the meds and I’m still coughing a lot even though I am using my inhaler.

Placebo? No skin contact means no absorbtion, so I do not see how it can work

Is cooking this necessary to achieve the same benefits?

Yes it will be wet-ish, soggy. You can wrap over it once you’ve applied it to affected area, with plastic wrap or another, dry cloth, to prevent everything from getting wet from it while doing the treatment. I use it when I have flu, on my chest, and put a dry cloth or piece of plastic over as I’m doing treatment.

I still have heat and swelling in my knee and am looking for something to help with that. Is there a poultice for that?
I used to use poltices on my horses for inflammation but I don’t remember what was in them.
